There is a saying in Thailand and Cambodia that is often used to settle misunderstandings and disputes along with agreeing on concepts and selling goods.
Same same, but different.
Same same is used in a variety of ways. It is mainly used in attempts of sale. They have everything knockoff, from purses to watches to Nikes to hand-held tazers. Also same same means yes, we share the same thoughts but they are just expressed differently. Such as when giving examples or sharing notions where there may be a cultural or communication barrier. It is a friendly way to settle minor disagreements and comparisons.
Once I learned about same same, but different, I find I catch myself using it daily. Not only is there a shared laugh between the two parties but it somehow tends to create an understanding even if the details are still vague or unclear.
There is also same same, no different. I figure you know what this means.
